Femur Shaft Fracture

Although femur is the longest and strongest bone of our body but even strong force can break it. The type of fracture depends upon the extent of force and location of injury.

Cause of Femur Shaft Fracture:

High-energy collision OR motor vehicle or motorcycle crash OR hit by a moving vehicle OR fall from height OR gunshot wounds.

Symptoms of Femur Shaft Fracture:

Sudden & intense pain and tenderness, swelling of the area, deformed leg that looks shorter than the other along with inability to straighten the injured leg and put weight on it.

Treatment for Femur Shaft Fracture:

Some of the distal femur fractures may be treated with skeletal traction or casting and bracing. But the rest of the complicated fractures need surgical treatment that can be an internal or external fixation.
