Hip Fracture

Breakage in the upper quarter of the femur (thigh) bone is termed as hip fracture. It is quite a complicated fracture that mostly requires surgical intervention.

Cause of Hip Fracture:

Fall OR direct blow to the side of the hip OR forceful twisting of leg OR even standing in case of weak bones.

Symptoms of Hip Fracture:

Pain or weakness over the outer upper thigh or in the groin, discomfort while flexing or rotating the hip, shortening of injured.

Treatment of Hip Fracture:

Some fractures of the hip can be managed non-surgically if the patient is too ill to undergo surgery. But the rest of the fractures require surgery to reconstruct the normal anatomy of the hip and restore mobility so that patients can return to normal activity.
