Carpal Tunnel Release

Carpal tunnel is a small space in the wrist from where the median nerve and several tendons run from forearm to the hand. Median nerve controls movement and feeling sensation of thumb, index, ring and half of ring finger of hand. Any pressure on the median nerve causes carpel tunnel syndrome.

Causes of Carpal Tunnel :

Pressure on median nerve that passes through the carpal tunnel due to irritation and swelling of the synovium OR overuse of hand.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel :

Numbness or tingling or weakness in the hand, and sometimes pain up the arm

Treatment for Carpal Tunnel :

An arthroscopic surgery can be done to cut the ligament roof and enlarge the tunnel. This would reduce pressure on the nerve and relieve symptoms.
