De quirvain’s disease

De Quervain tenosynovitis is a painful condition affecting the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist. A person suffering from this condition will feel pain while turning the wrist, grasping anything, or making a fist.

Symptoms of De quirvain’s disease :

  • Pain over the outside of the wrist joint.
  • Painful movements of the thumb.
  • Painful gripping or rotation of the hand and wrist.

Causes of De quirvain’s disease :

Although the exact cause of de Quervain tenosynovitis isn’t known, any activity that relies on repetitive hand or wrist movement — such as working in the garden, playing golf or racket sports, or lifting a baby — can make it worse.

Treatment for De quirvain’s disease :

  • Rest
  • Physical therapy
  • Injection – corticosteroid
  • If all above fails – Needle release or surgical release can be done.
